Fitness for Work Policy
We are committed to ensuring that all employees, contractors, and third parties are fit to perform their duties safely and effectively. The purpose of this policy is to safeguard the health, safety, and well-being of individuals and to maintain operational standards across the business.
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All RGA employees, contractors, and consultants
- All locations, operations, and activities where work is performed on behalf of RGA
Policy Statement
RGA requires that all individuals are fit for work in order to:
- Perform their duties safely and competently
- Protect their own health and safety, and that of others
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations
RGA does not tolerate employees or contractors attending work while impaired by:
- Alcohol or drugs
- Fatigue or lack of sleep that affects performance
- Any medical condition that compromises safety, unless appropriately managed and disclosed
Responsibilities
- Employees and Contractors: Attend work in a fit state, report any conditions or substances that may affect performance, and follow medical advice or reasonable work adjustments
- Managers / Supervisors: Monitor and assess fitness for work, provide guidance and support, and escalate concerns where appropriate
- Human Resources: Support employees with health and well-being interventions, reasonable adjustments, and record-keeping
Procedures
- Pre-Employment Checks: All new employees and contractors undergo verification of fitness for role, including health questionnaires or occupational health assessments where relevant
- Ongoing Monitoring: Line managers monitor performance, attendance, and health concerns that may impact fitness for work
- Drug and Alcohol Policy: Employees are expected to comply with RGA’s Drug and Alcohol Policy, which may include testing in safety-critical roles
- Medical Conditions: Employees must disclose medical conditions that may affect their work; reasonable adjustments will be considered in consultation with occupational health
Reporting and Support
Employees should report any concerns regarding their own or colleagues’ fitness for work to their manager or HR. Reports are treated confidentially, and appropriate support, adjustments, or interventions will be provided.
Compliance
Non-compliance with this policy may result in disciplinary action.
Review
This policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant to RGA’s operations and aligns with best practice.
